Idaho State Insurance Fund (ISIF) is a non-profit organization that provides affordable health insurance to Idaho residents. It covers about 850,000 patients and more than two thirds of all otherwise uninsured people in the state

The Idaho State Insurance Fund was created to provide employers with the financial means to self-insure. Self-insured parties include self-employed persons, corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships, such as limited liability companies owned by one or more residents of Idaho.

Self-insuring parties can use any method whatsoever to create an "innovative" self-insurer organization. Funds contributed by self-insuring parties are used to pay claims of other members of the fund's self-insured entity. Generally, claims are allocated on a first-in, first-out basis.

The Idaho State Insurance Fund operates like other workers' compensation funds. Employers' risk pools are determined by their size and revenue. If an employer does not participate in the state's workers' compensation fund, they will be considered a low-risk business and will be placed in the risk pool.

Injured employees and employers are covered by workers' compensation insurance, also sometimes called accident insurance. When an accident occurs on the job, a claim form is filled out. When this occurs, one's employer must file a claim form with the Idaho State Insurance Fund. Compensation insurance companies handle all claims.
